Ultrafast speeds offered to social housing tenants.
Hyperoptic is making ultrafast broadband speeds available to social housing tenants in Newcastle.
The provider has been chosen by Newcastle City Council to create a full-fibre gigabit broadband network, which will service almost 5,000 properties in 25 social housing developments.
As a result, tenants will have access to connection speeds of up to 1,000Mbps, which is more than 30 times faster than the average.
This is the latest in a series of partnerships between Hyperoptic and councils and housing associations, following similar agreements with the likes of Salford Council, Nottingham Council and Hyde Housing.
Tim Huxtable, Regional Director of Hyperoptic, commented: “Public services are becoming digital by choice.
“We are equipping and enabling social housing tenants to access these services in the best way possible, with an internet connection that helps rather than hinders, and will stand the test of time as technology advances.”
Councillor Jane Streather, Cabinet Member for Housing and Public Health at Newcastle City Council, added that providing reliable and affordable ultrafast broadband is “an essential part of our drive to increase digital inclusion”.
“By working in partnership with Hyperoptic, whose gold standard services have been tried and tested by other councils, we know our tenants will receive the best internet experience possible in the UK today,” she commented.
This comes after Hyperoptic outlined ambitious plans to roll out its 1,000Mbps full-fibre service to two million homes by 2022.
The provider recently secured £100 million from four European banks to fund a larger-scale deployment, which it believes will enable it to offer even more people a “credible broadband alternative that is future-proofed for decades to come”.
