Once just a simple pay-TV service along the lines of Netflix or Amazon Prime Video, Now TV has since expanded to include broadband, TV and phone bundles, allowing you to get a range of services from a single provider.

As a subsidiary brand of Sky, Now TV offers customers access to Sky’s premium channels, such as the full complement of Sky Sports and Sky Cinema channels, as well as Sky’s kids programming.

Now TV’s TV, broadband and home phone bundles — dubbed Now TV Combo packages — operate on 12-month contracts or on a no-contract basis. Choose the latter and you’re free to cancel at any time without penalty.

Prices start from £29.99 per month. How much you pay for your Now TV Combo depends on whether you take standard and fibre broadband, which type of TV Pass you opt for and whether you choose to add a calls add-on for cheap phone calls.

Depending upon which combo you sign up for, you’ll get either a Now TV Box or at Now TV Smart Box. Although both boxes let you access the channels and catch-up services you subscribe to, only the Now TV Smart Box gives you access to Freeview channels and the ability to pause and rewind live TV.

Now TV pros and cons

Perhaps Now TV’s biggest ‘sell’ is flexibility. If you take a no-contract Now TV Combo, you’re free to cancel at any time and won’t be charged. So if you think you might be moving house soon or aren’t sure how long you may be living at a particular address, for instance, it could be just what you’re looking for.

But it’s worth noting that a set-up charge of £30 applies, which may offset the flexibility that you’re getting. You should also bear in mind that Now TV will go on renewing your one-month subscription with them until you actively cancel it.

For others, the appeal of Now TV is that the rolling contract system enables you to get Sky Sports and Sky Movies without making a major financial commitment. Equally appealing is the option to swap your TV pass for another one whenever you like.

So let’s say you only want Sky Sports for the nine months of football season — you can just cancel it in the off season, then switch to a Sky Movies pass or Entertainment Pass.

By the same token, you can add extra passes to your bundle whenever you like. So if you’re signed up to a Now TV Combo with a Sports Pass and decide you want extra kids channels over the summer holidays, you can add the Kids TV Pass for a few months and cancel when they’re back at school.

Now TV home phone and add-ons

If you don’t opt for a calls add-on your Now TV bundle, you’ll pay for the calls you make on a pay as you go basis.

Call packages get you free calls at particular times. The Evening and Weekend calls add-on is priced £4 per month. The Anytime Calls add-on is £8 per month.
