About Plusnet Broadband
Plusnet markets its broadband products on value for money, good customer service and fast connection speeds.
Founded in 1997, Plusnet established itself as a dial-up ISP, and in 2004, the size of its customer base doubled. Since then, the size of the Plusnet internet customer base has continued to grow and it’s now one of the UK’s larger broadband service providers.
The company as it currently exists is the amalgamation of three communications companies: Force9, Free-Online and Metronet.
In 2012, Plusnet fibre broadband was launched, using the same network as BT’s super-fast Infinity product and offering a maximum speed of 76Mbps. Its packages all offer unlimited downloads, but traffic prioritisation applies. See the Plusnet website for details.
Plusnet customer service
Plusnet takes pride in the customer service awards it has won and offers a number of ways for customers to get in touch.
Plusnet’s online help and support section is intended to cover the most frequently asked questions, while a ‘Contact Us’ facility is available for live online chat or by phone. For standard support queries, customers can call a freephone line, which is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. All call centres are based in the UK.
Equipment
Plusnet’s four-port wireless routers use ‘N’ series technology and are provided with all fibre and ADSL broadband products.
These are free when customers sign up for a 12-month or 18-month contract on ADSL and fibre broadband products.
Software features
Choose the Plusnet Unlimited product and you’ll get free Plusnet Protect software, which is updated daily from its servers.
Created by McAfee, the Plusnet Protect security package also includes spam protection and a personal firewall.
Plusnet internet products also come with its parental controls tool, Plusnet SafeGuard.
E-mail features
Customers with Plusnet broadband deals receive a default mailbox, with unlimited alias addresses included (subscription accounts receive an unlimited amount).
Alias addresses redirect mail to the default mailbox given during sign-up and are useful if you don’t want to give out a real address.
Extras
Plusnet offers monthly discounts to customers when they refer a friend or family member.
The discount applies if the recommended customer takes a standalone Plusnet broadband deal or signs up for a Plusnet broadband package that bundles together more services.
